Mooncakes & Milk Bread is a one-of-a-kind culinary adventure through the world of Chinese bakeries from architect-turned-food-blogger Kristina Cho.
Discover all-new recipes, traditional recipes reinterpreted for modern bakers, and an insider's look at a few legendary Chinese bakeries.
Inside, you’ll find sweet and savory baked buns, steamed buns, Chinese breads, unique cookies, whimsical cakes, juicy dumplings, Chinese breakfast dishes, and drinks. Recipes for steamed BBQ pork buns, pineapple buns with a thick slice of butter, silky smooth milk tea, and chocolate Swiss rolls all make an appearance--because a book about Chinese bakeries wouldn’t be complete without them
In Mooncakes & Milk Bread, Kristina teaches you to whip up these delicacies like a pro, including how to:
- Knead dough without a stand mixer
- Avoid collapsed steamed buns
- Infuse creams and custards with aromatic tea flavors
- Mix the most workable dumpling dough
- Pleat dumplings like an Asian grandma
This is the first book to exclusively focus on Chinese bakeries and cafes, but it isn’t just for those nostalgic of Chinese bakeshops––it’s for all bakers looking to upgrade to their skills, blend classic and modern cooking techniques, and expand their collection of sweet and savory recipes.
Mooncakes and Milk Bread by Kristina Cho (Hardcover)
Kristina Cho is an award winning cookbook author, recipe developer, home cook, baker, food stylist, and photographer. Her groundbreaking debut cookbook, Mooncakes and Milk Bread, won her two James Beard awards and was described as an instant classic by The New York Times.
She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Reuben, and rescue pup, Olive. However, she was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where her grandparents owned and operated Chinese restaurants. In the family restaurant and her mother’s kitchen is where she cultivated her deep love of food and feeding the people in her life.
Before making a name for herself in the food industry, she worked as an architectural and interior designer for many years. In 2017, she started this blog, Eat Cho Food, as a creative outlet to share thoughtful recipes, candid stories, and beautiful food photography. Her original audience of just her mom and mother-in-law soon turned into an avid audience of thousands of readers and followers hungry for a new unique recipe each week.
Kristina’s food is distinctive, pulling inspiration from her Cantonese heritage, Midwest upbringing, and a sunny Californian sensibility. She’s currently working on her second book and continues to share new recipes weekly!
