FAQs

  • Why ESEA?
The term 'East and South East Asian (ESEA)' rose to prominence in British activism spaces, in order to address the rise in racism and discrimination following the COVID-19 pandemic. East and South East Asian (ESEA) typically includes people that "identify with cultures and ethnicities coming from Brunei, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea (North and South), Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam." • Are you only based online?
We are based online only for the time being! Occasionally there will be pop-up events, please keep an eye on the events page or social media for any updates.
  • I want to buy a book that you don't currently stock.
Please contact us at hello@juniperbythesea.com! We will do our best to see if we can help.
  • Why are some of your books dispatched separately?
One of the bookshop's primary aims is to promote important but possibly lesser-known titles by East and South-East Asian writers. Some of these books may no longer exist in mass circulation and have been specifically arranged to be printed for the bookshop. Some of them may also have been sourced internationally. For that reason, they may be dispatched separately, for which we do apologise if that causes any inconvenience from a delivery perspective! You will not be charged any extra delivery costs for this.
  • Why are some of the paperback books priced higher than usual for a paperback?
All books are sold at RRP (recommended retail price) as set by the publishers, and occasionally there are promotions or discounts offered. We have noticed some of the paperbacks we stock are more expensive than mainstream titles (and not necessarily of better paper quality..!) which we think may be due to limited stock at the publishers, or because they are titles that are printed only on demand.
  • How much does delivery cost?
There is a flat delivery fee of £3.99 on all orders to UK postal addresses. Orders of £35 or over will qualify for free shipping at checkout. All orders will be sent via a tracked delivery service.
  • When will my order arrive?
Orders will typically be dispatched within 2 working days. You will receive a tracking number via email. Orders are sent via a tracked delivery service. Please note that some books are dispatched separately, so your order may arrive on different days. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. You will not be charged any extra delivery fee for this. Occasionally, due to sourcing difficulties there may be a delay in dispatching some of the titles - if there is an anticipated delay of more than a week we will be in touch to inform you of this. You will be offered the opportunity to cancel your order for a full refund with delivery costs, provided that part of your order has not already been partially dispatched, in which case you will be offered a refund minus delivery charges.
  • My order contains a pre-order title, when will my order get dispatched?
Orders containing a pre-order title will be dispatched at the same time as when the pre-order is ready for shipping. If you would like to receive your other items earlier, please consider ordering them separately.
  • Where do you deliver to?
We deliver to all UK postal addresses. For any customers who would like an international delivery, please contact us at hello@juniperbythesea.com to discuss this further.
